The Whippoorwill

On any given night in Nashville,
there are countless venues showcasing everything
from blues to bluegrass, so why drive to Gallatin
for entertainment? Upon entering The
Whippoorwill, I understood.
Located in downtown Gallatin, The Whippoorwill
inhabits the building that formerly housed the
Swaney-Swift Drug Store, once a historic
landmark. Loney Hutchins, noted entertainer and
artist, envisioned The Whippoorwill years before
coming to fruition. Along with his wife, Joan,
they renovated the building with the theme,
make old new again. The restoration
included keeping some of the old décor, like the
prescription sign above the bar. With seating for
approximately 100 and a well-placed stage, there
is not a bad seat in the house.
Open since October, The
Whippoorwill has already attracted some
impressive entertainment from Donna Ulisse &
the Poor Mountain Boys to The McReynolds
Tradition and The Wannabeatles. Not catering to
any one genre, The Whippoorwill has something for
everyone.
Not just a music venue, the Whippoorwill also
offers up some fine southern-style food for lunch
and dinner. While enjoying the evening
entertainment, guests can savor delicious menu
items like the Chicken Marinara, Herb Grilled
Angus Burger, Grilled 10 oz. Sirloin, or the
Whippoorwill Chop Salad just to mention a few -
again there is something for everyone.
As an added bonus, The Whippoorwill is also an
art gallery, which features a different local
artist each month. Loney Hutchins and all those
at The Whippoorwill have created an exceptional
entertainment venue. Well worth the drive!
