From LA to Nashville Riley Weston Making Her Mark

by Holly Marie Tong

In the large entertainment pool of aspiring writers and entertainers, it is immeasurably challeng-ing to not only receive attention and appreciation for one talent, but extra difficult to be known and recognized as a multi-talent. In a recent interview, I had the pleasure of talking to one of the most intriguing, sophisticated and well rounded creative individuals I have ever met. She wowed the entertainment industry as she lived in LA working as a successful actress and writer on many television shows and movies. She is Riley Weston and she now resides right here in Music City USA as she is actively pursuing her biggest passion: Country Music. She is co-writing with some of the finest songwriters in town, playing out at songwriting hotspots and working on her debut album “Surrender Laughing.”

When I asked Riley how she would personally describe her music she said, “fun, edgy, heart-wrenching and even flirty.” As one who has had a chance to listen to Riley's music, I am truly appreciative of the different approach she has taken in her songwriting. She writes with a transparency and a con-fident honesty in which she isn't the least bit afraid to express who she is. She is excellent at playing on words as she writes catchy tunes in which her sense of humor comes shining through in songs such as “More Trash Than White” and “If I Said Howdy To You.”

With a massive resume of accomplishments I couldn't help but ask Riley about memorable experiences and milestones that have led her to where she is today. Before arriving in Music City Riley did everything from creating and producing the hit web series “Being Bailey” to starring in the hit TV movie “What about Your Friends,” and wrote for the WB television drama “Felicity,” while also starring as story Zimmer in the episode “Drawing the Line.” In addition she wrote “Damaged” for Artisian Entertainment, and “Christmas at Water's Edge,” an ABC television movie that she also starred in! Recently she wrote the “Nanny Express” and “Always and Forever” which have both been airing on the Hallmark channel. Another recent movies she has written is “Dark Beauty” which will be airing on the Lifetime Channel. Alongside all of the above she filmed a supporting lead in the indie feature film “Footprints.” Did I also mention Riley is an accomplished author? Yep, to say that she is gifted in multiple areas would be putting it mildly. With an encouraging character and a bubbly personality, I think it would be impossible for anyone to walk away from meeting her without feeling motivated and inspired to pursue their dreams. From starting out as an actress , to pursuing her writing, to making the big move from LA to Nashville and already experiencing musical success within her few short months here…it is safe to say that Riley Weston is beautifully unpredictable and positively unstoppable.
