As you may have read in a previous issue, I have finally fallen victim to becoming somewhat of an addict to a new reality show, but as I also said, in a roundabout fashion: Sweet Home Alabama isn’t just the cookie cutter, run of the mill dating show that you typically see on television. While it’s very unusual for me to have a “show,” that I regularly watch, I faithfully watched all 8 episodes of Season 2. At the conclusion, Tribble chose sweet country girl Tristan Smith who seemed to be the perfect match for him, and one of the clear favorite contestants of viewers.

While the first two seasons will never be forgotten by the cast and fans alike, season 3 is of course now the main focus. This time it’s 22 guys (11 from the country and 11 from the city) competing for the heart of Paige Duke (former Nascar spokes model and a true to the outdoors country girl) who was another favorite contestant from season 2. Paige had known Tribble previously from their college days, but in the end they both seemed to decide that their feelings for one another did not go beyond the friendship level. Paige walked away with class and her head held high, and is undoubtedly ecstatic to be the bachelorette for season 3.

So far, we have watched 3 city and 2 country boys be sent packing. While, I am normally pretty good at the elimination challenge and tend to read people well, two of her five being sent home kind of blindsided me. Like the last 2 seasons, there is always a “villain” or a trouble maker in the house, but the majority of them seem to get along and befriend one another like they have in the previous two seasons. This season’s “most disliked contestant award” definitely goes to New York City boy, Shaun Bigos. He seems so stuck on himself that I’m certain he would be flattered to receive the award I’ve just given him.

Everyone from a Hollywood actor, to a pro poker player, to a racecar driver, to musicians, to businessmen, to true cowboys, all there for the same reason: to win Paige’s heart. Early raved about favorites seem to be charming country boys, Alabama cowboy Bubba Thompson, Arkansas cowboy Shaun Smith and Minnesota farmer Jeremiah James Korfe. Dustin Tavella seems to win the “city votes” by a landslide, as he has not only shared that he is a musician and a Christian missionary, but that he chooses to remain abstinent. It also helps that Dustin clearly treats everyone with respect. I also must note that we have a couple Nashville contestants representing us well this season. The genuine and likable personalities of Donny Fallgatter (Country Musician– former lead singer of KingBilly) and Seth Tidwell (Promotions company owner in Murfreesboro, TN) stand out on the show. Although Seth was sent home after episode two, he walked away with dignity and grace, hopeful for his future.

So far we have watched Paige’s hopefuls fight it out, while some obvious friendships and connections have formed. We have also watched her have her three, one on one dates. Chemistry was in the air when cowboy Shaun Smith secured the first date and kiss with Paige. Unfortunately Shaun received news soon after that his horse and best friend “Credit Card” that had been stolen, was found dead because of a ruthless act that was committed. Paige and fellow country boys offered Shaun comfort, and she told Shaun she would like him to stay if he can. Paige also seemed to enjoy her date with country boy Landon “Tex” Chase, but sent city gentleman David Ellerman home after deciding she just didn’t feel “it.” Next week’s previews show things heating up yet again as Paige grows closer with some of the city boys. It is indeed true that Paige has dated a city boy before and has traveled the world, so perhaps the right city boy could persuade her? So the question is: Will she go for the big city lights or will her heart remain in the south?
