One-on-One with Scott Duthie
Producer
and Founder of Angry Monkey Entertainment

Palmer
Country Entertainment USA
had the pleasure of sitting down with Scott
Duthie for a few min-utes and was able to steal a
few moments of his valuable time for a one-on-one
interview with insights into the industry,
production and aspects of an music and film
industry 'Big Fish.'
CE USA: What can we expect from
you over the coming months?
Scott Duthie: Well, I just
finished Producing an indie film in Texas about
the True Life story of Richard Walrath. It stars
Jon Gries and Val Kilmer. It should be out in the
summer or fall of 2011.
CE USA: What are your industry
likes and dislikes as it pertains to production?
Scott Duthie:
Hmmm...that's a good question. Do you have a few
days?...lol
Dislikes are raising the money
for a film, budgets, cash-flow, calculating state
incentives, and union negotiations. It's not a
business for the "thin-skinned.
It's not easy being a "working"
Producer in this economical environment. Most
people do not understand what it entails. In most
cases I'm responsible for the money, writing
business plans, hiring everyone involved (usually
hundreds of people), contracts, negotions, and I
see the project through every phase from concept
to distribution.
It is called the "Movie Business," for
a reason. Most people don't understand that
someone has to look the investor in the eye at
the end of the day and account for the
expenditures.
Likes are working with fun,
passionate, people. I love bringing an idea to
life and working in such a power-ful media that
inspires future generations.
CE USA: What advice would you
offer to fledgling producers in the Pure Country
genre?
Scott Duthie: Prepare not to get
any sleep for about four years.
CE USA: What was it like to work
with George Strait and Katrina Elam?
Scott Duthie: I can not say
enough praises for both of them. When I was
scouting locations around Nashville with the
director, Chris Cain, we came across a sign at
one of the houses that read: "You Must Take
Off Your Shoes Before Entering, Unless You Are
The Lord Almighty or George Strait." I feel
the same way about him...lol. He is truly the
"King" of Country Music and an absolute
gentleman.
Katrina is one of those rare talents who can do
anything she puts her mind to. She can sing,
write, act... if she can dance, I say we shoot
her. She upsets the natural balance in the
universe... no one should be that gifted or
beautiful...lol.
CE USA: What was it like to work
with C. Durning? Hes a fascinating guy with
a long, memorable industry (and personal)
history.
Scott Duthie: Charlie is an
amazing person and a true American Hero. Prior to
his prestigious acting career, he was among the
first troops to land at Omaha Beach on
"D-Day." After being wounded, he went
to the front line to take part in the
"Battle Of The Bulge." He has three
Purple Hearts and was awarded the Silver Star
long before he was nominated for Emmys or Oscars.
He is a very special American and I am honored
for knowing him.
Currently, Scott Duthie is directing and
producing the animated feature film
"Firedog," starring Lauren Bacall, Tom
Arnold, Nia Peeples, Tom Berenger, Tony Danza,
Michael Madsen, Danny Bonaduce, William Katt,
Beverly D'angelo, Burt Young, Brett Butler, and
Dean Cain. He most recently served as producer
for the indie feature film, "River's
End," with director/actor William Katt;
starring Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), Barry
Corbin, and Charles Durning.
Duthie was also second unit director for the new
BBC series "Wild West" which recently
aired on the History Channel.
