Meet Scott Duthie

The music and film industry is a
murky, obscure pond of little fish and bigger
fish. Oftentimes, it's difficult to rise to the
surface of that pond to see who the big players
truly are. To be sure, we have the big name
celebrities and actors and performers that seem
to float above the surface for all of us to
admire and be inspired by. Yet, at the very heart
of the industry are the folks that are
con-stantly elbows-deep in the production,
promotion and distribution of those 'big fish'.
Meet Scott Duthie. Scott is the founder of Angry
Monkey Enter-tainment, a specialized Production,
Marketing, and Distribution Com-pany, (out of
Brent-wood, Tennessee) which recently super-vised
the theatrical dis-tribution of Brian
Herzlinger's new film, "Baby On Board,"
starring Heather Graham, Jerry O'Connell, John
Corbett, and Lara Flynn Boyle.
Scott is definitely swimming with
the 'big fish' with-out a doubt. Of course, all
of the opportunities, pro-jects and productions
Scott has worked on over the years didn't exactly
fall into his lap. Scott did his time and worked
tirelessly to become an alumnus of the American
Film Institute with a postgraduate degree in
Motion Picture Production Design. And if that
wasn't enough to transfer to an impressive
industry resume, Scott sought out challenging
projects that utilized his mastery of staying at
the forefront of technology in the production
aspect of both film and television.
The early days of Scott's career in Seattle,
Washing-ton, saw him saddle up with and function
as technical consultant and creative director for
major players like, Microsoft, UPS, Nintendo and
Boeing. Not satisfied, he went on ahead and
worked with Purina and Hall-mark, as well. That
pond we were talking about ear-lier is getting
quite a bit more crowded now isn't?
Scott also took some time to play
a key role on the creative teams for a few
productions you may have heard of like, "The
Rock-ford Files", "The Magnificent
Seven", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
and "Tracey Takes On". That pond is
getting deeper, too.
As if that litany of names, shows and projects
wasn't enough for you, (and it certainly wasn't
for Mr.Duthie) he also went on to rack up some
film and television credits, as well. Some of
these you may have heard of or even watched for a
time to include, "Leave it to
Beaver","Sleepless in Seattle",
"Dante's Peak", "The
Patriot", "Temptation Island" and
"Touched by and Angel."
Well, I think we can say Scott Duthie is very
busy fish in the industry! Yet, he wasn't quite
as tuckered out as you and I might have imagine
after all of that work. Scott still had a few
cards up his sleeve and went on ahead and jumped
into some critical produc-tion work for many
nationally successful commer-cials and
promotional spots for Reebok, Pontiac, Visa,
Verizon, along with ABC and CBS Network
promotionals.
Oh, and if you thought film and
television were the only ponds Scott learned to
swim in, you'd be mis-taken. Scott also spanned
the shores and jumped feet first into the waters
of the music indus-try. He offered up his unique
style of creativity to music videos from The
Backstreet Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The
Donnas, Mel C, Joe Cocker, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg,
Smashmouth, Tal Bachman, REM, Citizen King, Five
For Fighters, Toni Braxton, Kelly Clarkson,
An-astacia, and Ben Moody. Not exactly a
bottom-dwelling array of catfish.
Now, this might be all well and
good, but Scott brought it home to the Nashville
area and did us proud by producing the latest
"Pure Country 2 DVD". The "Pure
Country 2 DVD" saw Scott bring together some
industry 'big fish' like, George Strait, Katrina
Elam, Michael McKean, Cheech Marin, Bronson
Pinchot, Jackie Welch, and Heidi Brook Myers in a
story that involves a young woman who is gifted
by angels with the strength of song, personality
and perseverance. All she has to do is hold on to
them through the struggles she faces. After
leav-ing home and coming to Nashville to pursue
her dreams, she realizes the price of fame is
more than she bargained for. And if you're
pickin' down on Broad-way at 'open-mic night' for
tip-jar money, you know the drill.
"Pure Country 2 DVD", worthy look at
the desperation and the inspiration. Thanks,
Scott, for the production. Yet another feather in
the cap of those, like you, that have the heart
to jump in, boot up and hold up a mirror to all
of us here in Nashville.
